Get Started Step-by-Step Guide for Selling Point

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to get started with Selling Point:

  1. Selling Point is an app that helps you migrate Gift Cards from any POS or Website into Shopify. Your customers will be able to use their legacy gift cards from your old platform right on Shopify.
  2. To get started, download all of your Gift Cards out of your legacy system. Your old system will usually have those gift cards available for export in a CSV (which simply means comma separated values) format.
  3. There are only 4 required columns in the Selling Point CSV making it extremely user friendly!
    1. Code (required): (Gift Card code, must be made up of alphanumeric characters (numbers and letters without special characters). The code has to be a minimum of 8 characters, up to a maximum of 20 characters. *This is a Shopify restriction not an app restriction. If you fall into this category our team can assist with solutions.
    2. Initial Value (required): This is the initial value that was on the Gift Card when it was first created. e.g. if a customer bought a $25.00 dollar gift card a year ago and used $20 dollars worth, the initial value would be $25.00. When formatting in your CSV, Please do not add the currency and please add the cents. In the above example $25 would be written as 25.00 *Please do not add any currency symbols to your values it will error out.
    3. Balance (required): This is the remaining value that's left on the gift card. So if we use the same example as above, if a customer bought a gift card  with an Initial Value of $25.00 a year ago and used $20.00 dollars worth, the remaining balance would be $5.00. When formatting in your CSV, please do not add the currency and please add the cents. $5.00 would be written as 5.00 *Please do not add any currency symbols to your values it will error out.
    4. Currency (required): This is the currency that your online store store utilizes. For the USA it's USD. You can find a list of popular currencies here.
    5. Despite the presence of additional headers (for very specific use cases--see below), a 4-column CSV will be perfectly acceptable to ensure proper import. The large majority of merchants will only utilize these 4 main columns!
    6. Download the sample Gift Card CSV here
    7. Here's an example of a perfectly acceptable Gift Card CSV with only 4 columns
    8. You need all of the 9 headers in your CSV for the CSV to validate it's totally fine for the columns to be blank:
    9. **Please double check your CSV before importing as you won't be able to delete Gift Cards once they are imported. You'll only be able to disable them.**

There you have it now you're ready to import and let that app get to work. Happy Selling!

If you're interested in some of the more advanced columns continue reading.

  1. The remaining 5 columns are not required you still have to keep the blank columns for them but you aren't required to use them:
    1. Phone: You can add a customers mobile number to link the Gift Card to a specific Shopify customer. Please Note: If you add a mobile number and import the gift cards it will send an SMS to the user letting them know that they have a new gift card on your Shopify store! So use this with caution-- you only want to add a phone number if you want to let the user know that they have a new Shopify gift card and your store is already launched.
      1. The notification will look like this:
    2. Email: You can add a customers email address to link the Gift Card to a specific Shopify customer. Please Note: If you add a customer email and import the gift card, it will send an Email to that user letting them know that they have a new gift card on your Shopify store. So use this with caution. You only want to add an email address if you want to let the user know that they have a new Shopify gift card and your store is already launched.
      1. The email notification will look like this:
    3. Expires on: If the gift card expires then you can add the date when the Gift Card is set to expire. It has to be in this format: 2035-01-02. In this case, the Gift Card would expire on January 2nd, 2035.
    4. Disabled at: The date and time when the gift card was disabled the date format for this has to be in (ISO 8601 format) YYYY-MM-DD Thh:mm:ssTZD (e.g. 2046-03-12 16:49:59 -0400) *Most merchants will never need this column.
    5. Note: This is an optional note column that only the merchant will be able to see.
    6. If you filled in every single column, here's how it would look:
  2. Once you've got your CSV formatted correctly all you have to do is import the file and let that app get to work.
  3. **Please double check your CSV before importing as you won't be able to delete Gift Cards once they are imported. You'll only be able to disable them.**
